The Sun Inn

About

Tucked away in the heart of the village, this old Inn’s been knocking about since the 1700s — and it’s got all the character you’d hope for in a proper Pembrokeshire pub. Back in the day, it was a handy pit stop for pilgrims on their way to the grand old Cathedral at St David’s. These days, it’s a cosy, welcoming spot run by the lovely Adam and Steph, serving up cracking food and plenty of local flavour — in more ways than one.

St Florence is a favourite with walkers tackling the Cistercian Way — a long-distance trail that was dreamt up in 1998 to mark 900 years since the Cistercian monks kicked things off. So if you’re rambling through, it’s well worth a pause here.

The village itself has deep roots, going all the way back to Norman times. You can still spot buildings from the 1500s and 1600s, complete with those distinctive Flemish chimneys — a nod to the Flemish settlers who once called this place home.

The River Ritec runs right through the village on its way to Tenby, adding a bit of scenic sparkle. And if you’re into your history, check out the 12th-century church, dedicated to St Florence (a Norman saint, not just a clever name). It was spruced up in the 1800s and now holds a Grade II listing — not to mention a memorial to Robert Ferrar, a Protestant bishop who made a name for himself in St David’s.
